Field Trip to the Ski Museum

My class and another fourth grade class had the opportunity to go on a field trip to the ski museum in Park City. It was so cool. First we learned about the history of skiing, some Utah history, and the water cycle and how important snow is to us and the economy. Then we got to watch the skeleton sledders who are training for the Olympics practice on the big luge slide. (The same slide that bobsledders use). The athletes were going as fast as 80 miles an our. I tried to take a video the first time, but hit my camera button too slow. I was able to get a video the next time. We went to the top where the athletes begin their slide. There we met the actual bobsled coach of which the movie, "Cool Runnings," was based off of.

After seeing the athletes train, we went to the high jump. It was cool to look down at the steep hill filled with snow. One picture shows one of my students at the top of the hill where jumpers begin. (I blurred out his face and some of my other student's faces because I do not have their parents permission to post their pictures on the internet).

Next we ate lunch, during which, a past Olympian came and talked with the students. He answer many questions about the Olympics, about his training, and other random stuff. Overall, it was really fun field trip and my students were very well behaved. (Well, all except one, bless his heart). The bus ride back to the school was kind of long. The student I was sitting next to fell asleep, and I wanted to fall asleep, too.

Not feeling good

Well, I don't feel very good right now, meaning I have some kind of virus, so what better thing to do than blog! I am hoping I feel better sooner rather than later, especially before Thanksgiving! Luckily, today is Friday, and we get done with schol at 1:15, so I was able to leave the school at 1:30, and take a nice long nap. Plus, I have the weekend to get better. I brought home lots of grading, so that will keep me busy!:-) Sorry, the blog post isn't that exciting, but it's what's on my mind at the moment! Hopefully, I will have a good report after Thanksgiving!:-)

Loving the New Ward

Well, I have been in my ward for about 2 a half months now, but it feels like much longer. I feel apart of the ward, and I love the new friends I have made. I am getting use to my new calling as Ward Activities Co-chair. It's a lot of fun. Every Sunday, we have Ward Prayer and Game night at my house. This is where members of the ward really get to know each other, and become friends. As for activities, we have only done one ward activity since my call, and that was the corn maze. It was a lot of fun. We also did a stake ysa activity that I helped at. It was a Halloween activity and everyone dressed up. My ward does fhe every Monday, and it is always fun, as well. The black and white picture is actually taken at an FHE activity. We went to "This is the Place" monument for a haunted house experience. It was neat because it was the creepy kind of haunted house, it was more like the true Spirit of Halloween with the headless horseman. Overall, things are going well for me. Salt Lake has not turned out to be so bad of a place to live after all. There are a lot of people here, but also a lot of opportunities.

Feeling in place

I was worried when I first came to Salt Lake, thinking that things would be different for me. Well, they are different, but things are good. I fit right in my ward, and feel like I have been there longer than only a month and a half. I have a new calling, and so far I enjoy it. I have made some awesome friends, and I love my roommates. I really can't complain. I know I was suppose to be here in Utah, at this time, and things seem to be working out for me. The Lord sure blesses us, especially when we do those things he wants us to do. I have long days at school, but even then I realize that I love my students and I want them to succeed, so those extra hours of work will be worth it in the end.

Speaking of School, my students loved having it be my birthday. We had a little party at the end of the day, and some of my girls did little skits. Some of my other students made me stuff, and all of the students decorated the room. I will try to get pictures up of the white board. My students wrote all over it,

School

Well, this is my second blog about school. I am starting to get a handle on things, and I really love my students. I didn't realize how much harder and time consuming being the actual teacher would be versus being the student teacher. I definitely have some rough days, like yesterday, but other days make up for those bad days, and my students care about me, so that helps. Check out my pictures of my very own classroom. I took these awhile ago, but I finally had the chance to post them.

School is Starting

I am now in Salt Lake. I began my new adventure as a certified teacher last week. I had orientation, which was not that exciting last week, and then this week, I began my first contracted day. It's kind of exciting to know I have my own classroom, and my name badge says teacher on it. I have been trying to set up my classroom the last couple of days, but it's a work in progress. The students don't come until next Monday, August 25th. I'm excited for them to come, but feel like I have a lot to do to prepare. My classroom is so cute. I think it really fits my teaching personality. I am lucky enough to have a piano in my room, and have some how accumulated random things for the classroom. I will try to post pictures of my classroom, when I get it all complete!

No apartment yet

Well, I have to be in Salt Lake starting Monday, August 11, and I don't have an apartment yet! Luckily, my aunt and uncle are nice enough to let me stay there until I find one! I'm super excited to move, but I will miss everyone at home. Don't worry I will come to visit a lot! Wish me luck as I start teaching, I'm going to need it!

EFY

I worked as an Especially for Youth counselor this summer. I did two weeks in Provo in June, one week in Forest Grove, Oregon, and one week in Tacoma, Washington. I loved it. It was such a good opportunity for me to be an instrument in the Lord's hands for the youth of the church. I met many wonderful youth as well as gained many new friends that around my age. I miss EFY already and hope to go back next year.
