August Adventures!

The last couple of weeks have been eventful for both of us.  Mine was more of fun events, and Josh was busy working hard.  He’s a good man!! Here is the run-down of the last couple of weeks:

My Mom Came to Visit!!!

It was so fun to have my mom come to Fort Collins to visit us.  I think we might have her convinced that she wants to move here, too!!  While she was here, Josh worked a lot so her and I went shopping, and I bought my first maternity outfit.  We also made cupcakes, and she showed me her special way of frosting them.  It was kind of a practice thing because my brother is getting married this week, and for the open house they are having cute cupcakes.

Benji, my engaged brothers, was coming from Virginia the night we made cupcakes, so we made some for his birthday, which was the day before.DSCN2398

And of course I had to make some for my hubby to let him know I love him.DSCN2399

Here is our supplies: zip-lock bags, scissors, frosting, cake mix, cupcake cups, and cupcake pans (not pictured).

After cupcake night, I rode/drove back to Idaho with Benji and my mom.

Idaho

Josh stayed home to work for the week that I was gone in Idaho. Like I said- He’s a good man!!

In Pocatello, I ran errands with my mom, helped my sister throw a bridal shower for our almost sister in law, went out to lunch with my friend Shawn, babysat my cute cute nephews, and of course talked with lots of family, and had fun with my brothers.  Here is some moments I caught with the camera:

Aaron being a spider-man on my mom’s van!!

Jason playing his electric guitar!  He is really good.DSCN2428The video is of Jason playing something for me.  My camera got weird noises while I was recording. I wish you could hear him in real life person!!  (I want a flip camera for Christmas- hint hint- Josh- so I can get good videos with good sound of my baby when it comes).

Baby Derrick- My very cute newest nephew!

Kayla's, my almost sister-in-law) Get to know Kayla Bridal shower that Tina and I threw for her:

I made this candy bar bouquet with my other two nephews for the shower.  On the back of each candy bar it says a question that each guest (which included relatives) had to find out about Kayla.  Then they could eat their candy bar.

This is a picture of the three of us pregnant cousins on my mom’s side: Me- Due Feb. 29th (I know I look further along than 3.5 months), Natalie- Due Nov. 1, and Janae- Due March 1 (only one day after me).

Future Aunt Kayla holding Baby Derrick!  I should have got pictures of my other nephews, but I never had my camera out when I was with them.DSCN2422

I made Kayla an apron for her bridal shower.  She is so skinny next to me, that she really makes me look pregnant.  For the record- she really is REALLY skinny, and I guess I really am pregnant.Ha Ha

The cute engaged couple  This was after the bridal shower.  We didn’t let Benji stay for it.DSCN2426   Overall, Idaho was a great time for me!!  At the end of my trip, I flew to Albuquerque, New Mexico to have a little vacation with Josh.  He really needed a vacation from work, and even though it was hot, we had a good time.

I got to New Mexico first, so I had to wait for Josh to fly in from Denver.  His flight was a lot later, so I checked into the hotel, ate dinner, watched a movie, took a nap, and even got ready for bed.  FINALLY he landed at 12:20 AM.  He was suppose to arrive at 10:30 PM, but his flight was delayed.  It was good to see him after being apart for a week.

We went to the Albuquerque Temple on Friday, and spent the rest of the day in Albuquerque.  I wouldn’t say it was the best city to visit because there wasn’t much to do.  We swam and relaxed most of the day after the Temple.

DSCN2432 DSCN2433 DSCN2434 Saturday made up for Friday.  It was full of nature, slightly cooler weather, and more stuff to see.  We went up into the mountains as we made our way to Los Alamos for our next hotel.

We stopped at an Indian Reservation and had native Indian Tacos- yummy, but spicy!  The pictures kind of explain the rest of our day- except the part when we went to the museum in Los Alamos.  It was very neat and free!!  We learned all about the A-bomb and World Ward II.  There was a lot of information about science, the brain, and other cool stuff.  They had activities you could do to help you understand everything.

Here are some pictures of the outdoors stuff we did:

We hiked to a waterfall.  I’m not sure what happened to my waterfall picture, but it was pretty!

DSCN2439 DSCN2445 There was a big fire about a month ago, and the trees looked crazy.  A lot of them were half green on the top and half burnt on the bottom or visa versa.  I tried to capture the look with these pictures, but it’s hard to tell the difference.

DSCN2449 DSCN2451

As we were driving we encountered the aftermath of a lot of mudslides.  One even happened just minutes before we got there.  Mud was all along the mountain and all over the road.

DSCN2455 DSCN2456 DSCN2458 DSCN2461

Another interesting thing we saw was a barbed wire fence around a huge area in the national forest.  Josh wanted to know what it was all about because we kept seeing these signs.  We think it is something that has to do with building explosives.

DSCN2463 DSCN2464

This is a pretty view point of the Rio Grande River.DSCN2469

At the end of the day when the weather cooled off even more, we decided to go for an evening hike.  It was about 1.5 miles, and I thought I was not going to be able to do the whole thing, but turns out it was a lot of fun.  We climbed rocks and latters to get to the top and down again.  Don’t worry I was being careful! DSCN2472 DSCN2474

On this hike we saw old Indian homes, drawings, and even bullet holes.DSCN2483

We went to Santa Fe for a quick stop on our way to church on Sunday.  We didn’t go inside any of the buildings, but we saw some cool New Mexican culture.  We saw the oldest house in the USA, and the oldest still running church in the USA.

DSCN2489

This isn’t the church, but it was what a lot of the buildings in Santa Fe looked like.DSCN2494

We stopped for about two seconds to see the Mormon Battalion Monument.  There we saw some members from Colorado.  One girl new who my brother was because he served his mission in her sister’s ward.DSCN2497

We flew home Sunday evening.  It is good to be home, but now I know that if I leave my husband for a week- I better be prepared to clean the house when I get home!!  Ha Ha- It isn’t too bad, but I’m sure most of you can relate!!

We are Having a BABY!!!

Guess what?  It’s true!!  We are having a baby!!  It has been the Hardest secret to keep, but after we went to the doctor, we decided it was okay to finally share this Exciting news with everyone!

Here’s the details:

According to the ultrasound I am 11 weeks and 2 days today.

I am due Feb. 29th- LEAP YEAR DAY!!  (Unless the Doctor decides to move the due date to the 24th because of the ultrasound measurements, but as of right now- I’m sticking with the 29th).

Here’s the story:

Our last month of birth control was April.  Well, this baby really wanted to come because it didn’t take us long to get pregnant!!  We were expecting it to take a few months, thinking I would work full time for the next school year, and then be done with work.  Well, I never did get that full time job for this upcoming school year, and have a feeling I still won’t get it.  Heavenly Father knew this baby was coming, and knows that I want nothing more than to be home with my baby!!  (I am still looking a part time certified position, but we will see what the Lord has in store).

The week I found out I was pregnant, I had a feeling that I was!  I patiently waited to take the pregnancy test because I didn’t want to take it too early and get a negative result if I really was pregnant.  I was planning to take the test Thursday that week, but when I was at Walmart Wednesday, I happened to walk by the vitamins, and ended up picking up some prenatal vitamins.  Then I happened to walk by the baby clothes, and ended up picking up a darling dress with the words “Daddy’s Girl” on it.  Of course I bought the vitamins and the baby dress, even though I still hadn’t taken the pregnancy test.

I went home, and could wait NO longer.  I took the cheap dollar test, and it was positive!!!

DSCN2234

I couldn’t believe it!!!  It was positive, and I even took it a day early!!  Just to make sure  I took the more expensive test!!

DSCN2235

There you have it- not one- but TWO positive pregnancy tests!!

After that the preparations began for me to relay the exciting news to be told to my dear husband, Josh, the baby’s daddy!!

Here’s how I told Josh:

I made a treasure hunt around our house with 9 clues for 9 months of pregnancy.  He had NO idea what news was coming, so I told him that the treasure hunt was too make sure he knew where I had unpacked stuff and put it away in the house.  Ha Ha- he thought I was serious!:-)  I took pictures of Josh finding the clues.  Here are the clues and pictures:

DSCN2236

in a zip-lock bag of course!!

He couldn’t believe it!  He was excited, and we were both ecstatic the rest of the day!

DSCN2255

Here’s how I told my parents:

I made an e-invite invitation to the baby’s birth.  If you want to see the invitation click on the this link: http://new.evite.com/#view_invite:eid=02E8AAQZXGL24ED3WEPAYFYYS37FPI

As soon as I sent my mom the evite I texted her, and told her to only check her email if she could call me right  after.  Her and my dad were taking a class together, so I knew my dad would be with her.  Of course she checked it as soon as she saw my text, and stepped out of her class to call me.  She was super excited, as well!

How we told Others:

I called my sister, and she actually asked me because I had so many questions for her.

Molly, Josh’s mom, was in town the weekend after we found out, and she ended up guessing, as well!!

We met up with Molly, Sadie, and Spencer in Steam Boat Springs, CO, so we could tell Sadie and Spencer in person.  I have a bracelet that says “Mommy to Be.”  Sadie was already suspicious that we were pregnant, so as soon as she saw the bracelet she knew.  Spencer wasn’t so sure.  He said, “It doesn’t mean she is pregnant, it just means she will be a mom someday.”  It was pretty funny!

We wanted to tell  my siblings, close friends, and grandparents all in person, as well, during the time when we would be in town around my brother’s wedding, but we just couldn’t wait!!  We ended up calling, and the conversations were all great!!

Our baby will be the first grandbaby and great grandbaby on Josh’s side, so everyone is pretty excited.  My family is excited, too, and have been patiently waiting for us to get pregnant ever since we got married!!  (My mom LOVES being a grandma)!!

We are just thrilled that the Lord is trusting us enough to raise this little Spirit!  We hope that we will be good parents, and are very excited to start this new chapter of life!!
