It’s been a couple weeks since we have really done anything fun and adventurous. I don’t think I have driven more than 15 minutes in the last month. I was itching to do something outside that wasn’t too far away. The temperature was in the low 80s yesterday, so it was perfect to take an easy hike, which is what we did.
On our way to Cobb Mountain where the trails are, we stopped at Bottle Rock Power Plant Visitors Center. It was all about the how the geyser power plant in Lake County works.
Then we had a little snack before we started our easy hike.
The hike was just over a mile long, and it was interpretive, so it had signs of all the plants found on the hike and in Boggs State Forest. I was happy to learn from a sign that I had spotted poison ivy before we read the sign. In other words, I guess I officially know what it looks like, and can guide my kids away from it. (I don’t think I would have been able to say that a couple years ago). In case you are wondering how I remember what it looks like- I think of this saying, “Leaves of three, let them be!” Plus, poison ivy looks innocent!
Anyway, Payson walked a lot of the way, and Avenly…well, every time she acted like she wanted to walk (she had been walking for a couple weeks now, and took her first real steps about a week after she turned 1) she just went down to grab a rock or play in the dirt. She did walk around a little when we stopped to take pictures.
As far as pictures goes, I got an awesome blue-tooth remote for my cell phone camera. I love it. We had some fun with it at a nice little resting place on our hike.
At one point we saw the interpretive sign for blackberries, and lucky for us we actually found a few. They were a bit bitter, but Avenly sure liked them.
Twice a Cal-Fire helicopter flew directly over our heads. Both times I was too slow with my camera, but it was neat to have a helicopter fly right above us.
Towards the end Payson was wearing down, and it got a little rough, so Josh ended up dragging Pay in the stroller. I think Pay enjoyed it more than Josh, but Josh didn’t complain!
It was a nice Saturday, and exactly what I needed! September is full of adventures, and I’m sure I will be blogging a lot next month!
