Girl or Boy?

We find out Oct. 4 if we are having a girl or boy?  Here is your chance to put your guess in!! (If you get the blog emailed to you, and would like to guess, click on the blog link, and you can type your guess in the comments, or if you don’t want to do that- then you can email or face book your guess).

Old Wives Tales will give you clues as to what we are having.  If you know what the tales mean…here are some of the facts from the Old Wives Tales to help you decide on your 50/50 guess!! (If you don’t want to read them, that’s fine, but we would still love to hear you guess).

1.) Last time I was at the Doctor, the baby’s heartbeat was about 150 beats per minute.

Old Wives Tale says: If the heartbeat is over 140 then it’s a girl, if it’s under 140 it’s a boy.

2.) Josh has also gained some weight right along with me!  (Although, both of us have only gained a couple pounds so far).

Old Wives Tale Says: If the baby’s dad is gaining weight with the mom, then it’s a boy.

3.) I have craved both sugary items and citrusy/ sour foods.

Old Wives Tale Says: If the mother craves sweets, it’s a girl, if she craves sour things, it’s a boy.  Good luck with that one.

4.) During 1st Trimester I had Morning Sickness, but it wasn’t as bad as some peoples.  I threw up less than 10 times.

Old Wives Tale Says: If the mother had morning sickness, then it’s a girl.

5.) My legs have not gotten hairier- same amount and time as before for the hairy legs to become hairy after I shave.

Old Wives Tale Says: If the hair on the mother’s legs grow faster and thicker than it’s a boy.

6.) My finger nails have grown fast and strong!

Old Wives Tale Says: Too be honest, I can’t remember what the Old Wives Tale Says on this one, and I think they are just stronger from the prenatal vitamins!!

7.) My feet are NOT colder than they were before I was pregnant!

Old Wives Tale Says: If your feet are colder than before you got pregnant, it’s a boy.  (It was summer time when I got pregnant, so I don’t see how this can tell much).

8.) When I put my wedding ring over my belly with a piece of string, it swings back and forth, not in circles.

Old Wives Tale Says: If the wedding right goes from side to side, it’s a girl, but if it goes in circles, it’s a boy.

9.) Little toddler boys seem to love me!

Old Wives Tale Says: It’s a girl because the boys a couple years older can’t wait to meet her.

10.) Look at my picture.  You decide if  the baby is sitting high or low, and if my face has gotten cuter or uglier!!

Old Wives Tale Says: If the baby is carrying low- it’s a boy, high- it’s a girl.  If the mother has gotten cuter during pregnancy, it’s a boy, if the she has gotten uglier, it’s a girl because she still her mother’s good looks.

My Man Loves His Job

Just thought I would share a picture of Josh with the staff from the City Manager’s office.  He loves his new job, and seems to fit right in!

Ambulance, Bed Pan, IV- Sounds like the ER!

I learned a very expensive lesson Saturday night.  It was to not let myself get dehydrated!  Here’s the story:

Josh and I went up to Rocky Mountain National Park for a couple hours during the day. We drove up to high altitude- over 12,000 feet elevation. I should have been smart and drank lots more water being that we were at higher elevation and I’m pregnant.

After we got home, I showered and got all ready for the Relief Society Broadcast at my stake center.  I carpooled with a couple other ladies in my ward, so I didn’t drive to the stake center.  We had dinner, and at about 5:45 pm, my heart started racing.  It was wild racing for no reason.  I stood up thinking, that maybe I just had to go to the bathroom- since I go a lot.  It didn’t help- in fact, I felt light headed and like I was going to pass out.  So I laid down on the church couch.  My dizziness went away when I was laying there, but my heart was still beating like crazy.

The missionaries gave me a blessing, my friend gave me a water bottle, and I called Josh and told him I was coming home to go to  the doctor. My friend missed the broadcast to take me home.  It was so nice of her.  Josh took me to urgent care.  I was still in my dress, makeup, and all.  Things were getting worse, and I was really worried for the baby. Urgent care took me to the back immediately because when they checked my pulse it was 200 beats per minute.  Josh had to sign me in and show my ID for me.

At Urgent Care, they did an EKG, and took some blood samples.  I began to feel better laying down again, and my heart was starting to slow.  The EKG showed 160 beats per minute.  They said because I was pregnant they wanted me to go to the ER, so they sent me there by ambulance.  I tried to get them to just let Josh take me, but they said it was too much of a risk.  They didn’t even want me sitting up.

SO, at the ER- they did another EKG, and took all my vitals. We also listened to the baby’s heart to make sure it was okay. I got hooked up to a heart monitor, oxygen monitor, blood pressure thing, and an IV because  I was dehydrated.  My heart rate continued to go down even more so after the fluids started going in me, but every time I sat up or moved a lot, my heart shot up to 140.

The fluids made me have to pee, of course, but the nurse wouldn’t let me go to the bathroom because of my heart rate, so I had to use a bed pan.  Pretty weird for me to do- enough said! 

The doctor thought I might have a blood clot in my lungs, so I had to have an ultrasound on my legs to see if there was any blood clots.  There wasn’t, so the next step was to get a  cat scan to see if there was something in my lungs.  Josh and I decided to forgo the cat scan because I didn’t want to expose the baby to the x-ray, and I felt strongly that I didn’t have a blood clot.  We asked the doctor what he would do if he was in our shoes, and he said he would do the same thing we were, and not get the cat scan, either. 

So, from this whole adventure- the result was simply dehydration from high altitude and being pregnant.  It was good to get the IV and the fluids in me, but I don’t know about the ambulance, ultrasound, EKGs, and whatever else was ideal to solve the problem of dehydration.  However, if was good to get good results from all the tests done, which led to the conclusion of dehydration and not something else.

I didn’t mention that Josh was able to give me a blessing in the ER.  I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to get a blessing when I need it.  I am also thankful for my selfless friend who took me home and missed the broadcast.  It was a learning experience, and hopefully the only time I ever have to ride in an ambulance!!  We left the hospital after my heart rate was consistently under 100 beats per minute at about 11:45 PM.

My New Friends

One cool thing about being pregnant right now, is that I have a cousin due in November, three cousins (including Josh’s cousin) due in March right after me, a best friend due March 2, and my new 3 new friends all due within a few weeks of me.

Today I went out to lunch with 3 other Pregnant 1st time Mommies all due in February (well- January 1, Feb. 5, Feb. 29, and March 5) living in Northern Colorado!  It was so neat chatting with these new friends of mine because we are all in the same boat.  None of us have older kids, and we are all experiencing the same pregnancy milestone at relatively the same time.

 

We are all from different areas of Northern CO, so  we met at a central location at Olive Garden.  We were there for about 2 hours chatting away.  When we got up, we ALL went to the bathroom.  Luckily, there was four stalls in the bathroom.  Then, not planned, we all walked across the parking lot to Crispy Kreme Doughnuts.  I guess our babies were all thinking the same thing!  ha ha!  We plan to go out to lunch again in the Spring after our babies are born!

I wished I lived closer to these ladies, or closer to my cousins and friend who are all due around the same time I am.  It’s fun to talk to them about their pregnancies!

My Parents have 3 Married Kids Now!!

 

On September 2, 2011 Benji Bosen and Kayla Lazenby were sealed for all time and Eternity in the Twin Falls Temple!  It was really neat to be there, and see the sealing.  They are a perfect couple, and Josh and I love our new sister-in-law!!

Love my hubby!  This wedding brought back memories of our own wedding, since we haven’t been to one since our own.

The reception was in Boise because that is where Kayla is from.  At the church, Josh thought the grass looked very inviting.  After all we did drive 6.5 hour the night before, then woke up nice and early to get to the Temple- another 2.45 hours.  We got about 4.5 hours of sleep Thursday night, but it was totally worth it to go to the wedding.

Kayla had two sets of shoes.  The high heels and the peds! Benji changed her shoes for her.  It was cute.

I hung out with Caleb a lot during the reception.  He is the cutest little guy.  I got him and I some ice cream.  He ate his nice and quick. I turned to talk to someone, and when I turned back around, he was finishing mine for me, too!

My dad tried to give Benji advice about the wedding night.  ha ha!  It was so funny to watch. My dad was laughing, and Benji was red faced turning away from him.

After the reception, Kayla and Benji went to their hotel, and the rest of my family went to ours.  On Saturday, we went to Eagle Island.  Then we said good bye to my family and took off to Utah.  We saw Josh’s family.  The weekend went by so fast.  Before we knew it we were driving home through the Uintas.  That was a long drive home, but we did get to see some pretty things along the way.
