Smoke from the Creek Fire, that started during our drive to Bishop, was a surprise to us when we left the hotel room the next day. By the time we got back to the room that evening, it was raining ashes. We decided we didn't want another smokey day, so we left a day early. Other bummer happenings include:
-my tooth broke
-Anny and I both got stung by the wasps at Lake Sabrina
-we got kicked out of the spot we found on the lake because I guess it was a small boat marina
- our hotel room wasn't ready for us at 7pm, so while Josh went to get us dinner we swam in the freezing cold pool. The hot-tub was broken and there were no pool towels.
-then the mosquitos came out and started eating us alive
-Josh ordered from the wrong restaurant, so dinner wasn't that good
-Zaylee threw up on the van from being car sick
-Josh went to get a better dinner the next night, but the lines were all too long so we had another crappy dinner.
Lol. Lol. Lol. By the time he came back with our crappy dinner, we were just laughing at all the little annoying things that kept happening. Hahaha
Now- attitude is everything, and I try to be a glass is half full kind of person.
I am not always so optomistic (especially when my tooth broke), but I managed to keep my cool when the hornet stung me, and despite all of our little troubles no-one whined or complained too much (Anny's sting really hurt all night, and Payson had a bunch of mosquito bites on his sock line).
We actually saw some really pretty and cool things. Lake Sabrina was very beautiful. It was free fishing day in California, so we attempted to fish. We were going to kayak before our run in with the wasps, but even though that didn't happen the water was refreshing to play in.
I can't remember all the lakes at Mammoth Lakes, but I know they were all pretty. I do know we stopped at Lake Mary and Twin Lakes. We tried to teach the kids how to skip rocks at Lake Mary, but it's kind of hard to teach them when you only half know what you are doing. Haha. I got a couple skips. Josh got a few skips. Payson and Anny will learn someday.π
The view of Twin Lakes was my favorite. Even the smoke it was beautiful. We found a little place to take a break out in nature. Zaylee found a rock to slide down.
At the actual Twin Lakes we found the outdoor chapel. The kids took turns reciting the Articles of Faith, since we have been working on them for homeschool. Then they all put on their own show.
So, even though the trip wasn't perfect, it was still some great quality time as a family, and we learned a lot...(I need to take calcium for my teeth, we should bring sting cream and mosquito repellent, Zaylee should not play devices on windy roads, etc). Most of all we learned to roll with the punches and make the most of our time together without school of work getting in the way.
